Merewalesi started her studies in Tasmania, studying a Bachelor of Environmental Design Architecture, before moving to Melbourne and finishing her studies at Deakin with a Bachelor of Architecture. On completion of her studies she gained industry experience working as a project manager for a construction company, manufacturing pre-fabricated bathrooms.
In 2016, Merewalesi’s mother’s Island of Fiji was devastated by Cyclone Winston. Merewalesi visiting Fiji in 2019 and saw first-hand the destruction and impacts the cyclone had on her family. Her visit sparked a dedicated interest for sustainable emergency housing.
Merewalesi’s design principles are embedded with values of community, sustainability, and helping those who are vulnerable.
